Training Programme for Medical Students
Klinikum Karlsbad - Langensteinbach (KKL) is an affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Heidelberg (integrated with the medical faculty of University of Mannheim).
Clinical Foundation Course ("Klinischer Untersuchungskurs")
The clinical foundation course is conducted twice a year. This is an inter-disciplinary course and the students have the opportunity to go through all the departments is the hospital. By this approach, they have an excellent opportunity to have an insight various aspects of clinical examination, the day-today functioning of the hospital in various outpatient departments and wards. There are daily clinical teaching rounds that are conducted.
Further Clinical Course ("Famulatur")
Students are welcome to join this four-week course at anytime of the year at all the departments of this hospital. Applications could be directly made to the respective head of the department of the studentŐs choice. Their addresses, telephone numbers or e-mail addresses could be obtained from the homepage of the hospital.
Clinical Clerkship ("Praktisches Jahr")
Students have the possibility of doing their complete year of clinical clerkship in KKL. Besides Internal Medicine and General Surgery, the following specialties are available:
- Orthopaedics
- Radiology
- Neurology
- Anaesthesia
- Psychiatry
The departments committed to guarantee the students a strong foundation in their training. The students shall be actively involved in the day-today functioning of the department; they have the possibility to manage the patients under supervision. The students have a daily didactic programme, from the various departments.
During the period of their training the students have the possibility to avail free boarding at the hospital quarters and free meals are provided at the hospital refectory.
Guest physicians with an inclination to train in Vascular Medicine are welcome to the Department of Internal Medicine as ours is a recognised training centre for the various European courses i.e. European Masters and European Fellowship in Angiology / Vascular Medicine by VAS.
