Internal Medicine
The Department of Internal Medicine / Vascular Medicine has a bed strength of 102, catering to the patients with all types of medical illnesses. The strength of our unit lies in its highly sophisticated methodology to manage disorders of the heart and blood vessels, diabetes mellitus and diseases in the elderly.
The sub-specialties offered by out department are as follows:
- General Internal Medicine
- Management of acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases
- Multi-disciplinary intensive care unit
- Stroke unit
- Geriatrics
- Gastroenterology and Haematology / Oncology
- Nephrology with a dialysis unit. Dr. Piazolo and Dr. Eisermann run the nephrology unit.
The department has a regular and exclusive cardiovascular outpatient unit for patients who are insured by the national health schemes (KV-Ambulanz) as well for privately insured patients (Privatambulanz). This unit offers regular health screening checkups. It also offers pre-admission examinations and post-discharge follow-ups for inpatients.
The dialysis unit (Dialyseabteilung) caters to patients undergoing chronic dialysis therapy and it also has a large number of patients who suffer from kidney disorders secondary to underlying diseases such as blood vessel inflammations (vasculitis), connective tissue disorders, disorders of the nervous system and diseases of bone and mineral metabolism.
The department of internal medicine undertakes and conducts rehabilitative fitness training group activities for a large number of patients with heart and blood vessel diseases (Herz- und Gefäßsportgruppen). The department also conducts many seminars, continuing medical education programmes and conferences (Fortbildungsseminare und Kongresse) to train and inform medical personnel.
